This dataset presents research data associated with Carbonate triple oxygen and carbon isotope effects of chemical pretreatments on tooth enamel and eggshell. In this work, we test the effects of various chemical pretreatments on the mineral structure and isotopic composition of modern and fossil eggshell and tooth enamel. We present mass loss, FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared), and isotopic (δ13C, δ18O, Δ′17O) data.

Notes
| Methodology: All work was performed at Yale University. ATR-FTIR data were collected using a Bruker Vertex 80v with an A220 Platinum-Diamond stage attachment (Yale Earth Materials Characterization Core) or a Thermo iS5 with an iD7 diamond ATR stage attachment (Yale Initiative for the Study of Ancient Pyrotechnology). All isotopic measurements were made using an Aerodyne Research Inc. Tunable Infrared Laser Direct Absorption Spectroscopy (TILDAS) instrument in the Yale DELTA lab (i.e., Wostbrock Lab). Carbon isotope data are reported on the VPBD scale and oxygen isotope data are reported on the VSMOW2-SLAP2 scale in units of ‰. The associated data file contains thirteen [13] tabs: [1] Table S1.
